Field trip Options

Topeka Dino Days presents a unique opportunity for students and educators to experience to experience exhibits rich with natural history. Each of these exhibits are available at a discount for schools and youth groups. Additionally, educator resources are available to help provide additional layers of knowledge and insight for students.

SUE: The T. rex Experience

Step into the world of SUE the T. rex to uncover the mysteries about the life of this fearsome fossil. This newly updated exhibit, all the way from Chicago’s Field Museum is part of an immersive, multi-sensory experience.

Field trips to SUE are supported by Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. Guided tours are available along with "story times" for younger students This exhibit is hosted at the Great Overland Station and is available though May 1.

A special field trip rate of $5 per person is available for schools and other education-based groups. Please contact Sydni Meehan, Hospitality Specialist, at [email protected] for more information.

Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies

Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies is hatching at the Discovery Center on February 24 a part of Topeka Dino Days. This remarkable hands-on exhibition offers an astounding array of authentic dinosaur eggs and nests collected from all over the globe, in addition to great hands-on learning experiences.

The Kansas Children's Discovery Center education team has created a special collection of field trip experiences based on the exhibit, offered this spring in addition to your favorites, like Build, Roll, Engineer. Get your field trip request form in soon to get preferred dates.

Admission and transportation subsidies are available this semester for Title 1 schools - please contact us for details.

Tiny Titans Field Trip Options

Tiny Titans Explore & Discover

Two-hour, self-guided, educational play at the museum, including inside Tiny Titans! Students will have the opportunity to learn and discover at their own pace.

  1. Available only through May 30, 2022
  2. Designed for Pre K - 5th grade 
  3. Cost ranges from $5-$7 per person
Dino Egg Lab

Using real and replica fossils, students will find differences between dinosaur eggs, conduct experiments to compare egg sizes and shapes, and explore how forces act upon eggs.

  1. Available only through May 30, 2022
  2. Standards: Common Core, KCCRS, K.MD.1, K.MD.2, K-PS2-1, 1.MD.1, 1.MD.4, 2.MD.1, 2.MD.4
  3. Cost ranges from $8-$10 per person
Estimation Station

How tall were the dinosaurs? Students will use diverse measuring methods to compare their height to a dinosaur’s height, learning about tools, comparison, and data collection.

  1. Available only through May 30, 2022
  2. Standards: Common Core, KCCRS, K.MD.1, K.MD.2, K-PS2-1, 1.MD.1, 1.MD.4, 2.MD.1, 2.MD.4
  3. Cost ranges from $8-$10 per person
Dino Data

Real paleontologists analyze data to learn how dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. Students will create graphs to explore dino data points and learn how data changes with sample size.
